Is a neck hump always caused by fat, or can it be bone-related?

Recently I noticed a hump forming at the base of my neck, and I’m not sure what’s causing it. It doesn’t feel soft like fat, which makes me wonder if it could be structural. I’m concerned about whether this is something cosmetic or something that needs medical evaluation.

I always thought my neck hump was just extra fat, but when I saw my doctor, they checked my posture and bone alignment too. It turned out posture was a bigger factor for me. With some exercises and posture correction, it’s much less noticeable now.

Not all neck humps are from fat. In my case, imaging revealed a small bone prominence, and I had to work on posture and neck exercises. Diet alone didn’t make much difference.

Neck humps can come from fat, bone, or posture. Losing weight helped my soft tissue, and posture exercises improved it even more. The small bone-related part still shows slightly, but overall it looks much better.
